Rock City in Chattanooga and the drive to the Standing Bear Lodge in the mountains
Heute ist die letzte Etappe meines Roadtrips. Dann ist die erste Woche leider auch schon vorbei :(
Today is the last stage on my road trip. Then the first week unfortunately is over :(
Nach dem auschecken fuhr ich zu Rock City, einem Park mit tollen Steinformationen auf dem Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. Ausserdem hat man von da oben einen tollen Blick ins Tal und scheinbar kann man sogar 7 amerikanische Staaten von dort aus sehen. Chattanooga liegt direkt an der Grenze Tennessee/Georgia und für Rock City passiere ich mal wieder die Grenze zu Georgia. :)
After the check-out I drove to Rock City, a park with wonderful stone formations on the Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. Besides there is a great view to the valley and apparently you can even see 7 american states from the view point. Chattanooga is situated at the border Tennessee/Georgia and to come to Rock City I passed the border to Georgia again. :)
Rock City war eigentlich ganz cool. Ich habe nicht wirklich was erwartet, da ich mir nichts darunter vorstellen konnte, aber der Weg durch das Gelände ist super schön, manchmal sogar etwas abenteuerlich durch schmale Schluchten zwischen den Felsen, wo drüber ein Schild mit der Aufschrift "Fat men squeeze" (dicke Menschen werden zusammen gepresst) hing :D oder über Hängebrücken, durch Höhlen, unter balancierenden Felsen oder an Wasserfällen vorbei. Und in der Mitte wird man mit einem tollen Ausblick ins Tal belohnt. Ich war noch so früh am Morgen dort, dass noch der Morgennebel als dünner Schleier über dem Tal hing. Es war einfach atemberaubend schön. :) Nur die 7 Staaten konnte ich nicht erkenne :D Aber man sieht ja auch keine Grenzen in der Landschaft.... Manche der Höhlen und Gänge waren für Kinder mit Gnomen, Zwergen und Märchenfiguren dekoriert, so gab es Plätze wie die Gnomhöhle, das Zwergental oder die Märchengrotte. Es war schön und ist auf jedenfall empfehlenswert :)
Rock City was cool actually. I didn't expect something special because I couldn't imagine what it was, but the way through the area is wonderful, sometimes adventurous through narrow canyons betweens the rocks with a sign above "Fat men squeeze" :D or over suspension bridges, through caves, under balanced rocks or along waterfalls. And in the middle you will be rewarded with a great view into the valley. I was there early in the morning, so the valley was immerged in morning mist. it was so beautiful! :) Just the 7 states I couldn't see :D But you can't see the borders in the landscape ..... Some of the caves and walks were decorated for children with gnomes, dwarfs and fairytale figures, so there have been places like the gnome cave, the dwarf valley or the fairy grotto. It was beautiful and I definitely can recommend it. :)
Danach machte ich mich auf den Weg nach Nashville, um dort den Mietwagen am Flughafen abzugeben. Vanessa, eine Freundin, die ich in Ghana kennengelernt habe, wartete dort schon auf mich und holte mich ab :) Das Wiedersehen war grossartig! :) Wir hatten uns eine Menge zu erzählen... Sie fuhr mit mir extra einmal quer durch die Stadt, damit ich schon etwas sehe :D Bei ihr zu Hause warteten wir dann nur noch auf Brett, ihren Mann und dann ging es los zurück Richtung Berge.
Afterwards I drove to Nashville to give back the rental car at the airport. Vanessa, a friend from my Ghana time was already waiting for me and picked me up :) The reunion was great! :) We had to tell us a lot .... She was driving through the inner city just that I could see already something :D In her home we just waited for her husband Brett before we started again back to the mountains.
Nach ca. 4 Stunden Fahrt (inklusive Pause beim Eisladen Maggie Moos) kommen wir in Gatlinburg an, einem kleinen Ort am Rand der Smokey Mountains in der Nähe von Knoxville. Hier haben Vanessa und Brett zusammen mit Freunden eine Holzhütte in den Wäldern gemietet für das Wochenende. Die Lodge hatte den Namen "Standing Bear" :) Eine Warnung vor Bären hing übrigens auch direkt im Eingang der Hütte. In diesem Jahr scheint es täglich Sichtungen zu geben und man solle sich vorsichtig verhalten.... Ob wir auch einen zu Gesicht bekommen? :) Die Hütte war grooooss! Sie hatte einen Keller mit einem Doppelzimmer inkl. Bad und einem Hobbyraum mit Billardtisch, Airhockey und nem Kicker, auf der vorgelagerten Terrasse einen Jacuzzi. Im Erdgeschoss war ebenfalls ein Zimmer, ein Badezimmer und der grosse Wohn- und Aufenthaltsraum mit offener Küche, Sofaecke mit Fernseher und Kamin, davor eine Terrasse mit Schaukelstühlen und Tisch, um gemütlich draussen essen zu können. Im ersten Stock gab es nochmal 3 Zimmer, von denen ich eins nuzte. Wir waren zu 5., theoretisch könnte jeder von uns eins der Zimmer nutzen... :D Aber wir nutzten nur 3 Zimmer. Kurz nach uns kamen auch Allie (Brett's Schwester) und ihr Mann Matt an. :)
After round about 4 hours drive (inclusive a stop at Maggie Moos' icecream) we arrived in Gatlinburg, a small town at the edge of the Smokey Mountains and in the neighbourhood of Knoxville. Here Vanessa and Brett rented a wooden cabin in the forests for the weekend. The lodge's name was "Standing Bear" :) A bear warning was actually hanging in the entrance area of the cabin. This year there seems to be a lot of sights and everyone should be carefully.... If we will see a bear too? :) The cabin was very big! It had a basement with a double room incl. bathroom and a hobby room with billiard, air hockey and table soccer, on the terrace a jacuzzi. In the first floor has been 1 double room, a bathroom and the big living room with open kitchen, a lounge area with sofa, TV and fireplace and a terrace with rocking chairs and a table to eat outside relaxed. In the second floor there have been another 3 rooms, where I used one. We were 5, so theoretically everyone of us could use one room... :D but we just used 3 rooms. A short time after us Allie (the sister of Brett) and Matt arrived. :)
Unser erster Abend in der Hütte war total nett. Vanessa und Brett hatten einen Schokoladenbrunnen dabei und wir tauchten munter Erdbeeren rein und genossen :D Ansonsten gab es nur eine schnelle Pizza, weil es doch schon etwas spät war. Für morgen ist ein BBQ geplant :)
Nach einem Sprung in den Jacuzzi und einer Runde durch den Hobbykeller gingen wir ins Bett. Es war ein schöner Tag! :)
Our first evening in the cabin was very nice. Vanessa and Brett brought a chocolate fountain and we put some strawberries in it and enjoyed :D Besides we had pizza because of the time, it was late already. For tomorrow we planned a BBQ :)
After a jump into the jacuzzi we played some time in the hobby room and went to bed finally. It was a wonderful day! :)
