Georgia or "Gone with the Wind"

Heute gings über die Grenze nach Georgia. Auf meinem Programm stehen das Tanger Outlet in Commerce und Madison, eine kleine Stadt östlich von Atlanta mit viel alter Architektur, bevor es zur Übernachtung nach Atlanta zu den beiden Couchsurfern Alba und David geht.

Today I crossed the border to Georgia. On my program I have the Tanger Outlet in Commerce, Madison, a small town in the east of Atlanta with lots of old architecture, before I will drive to Atlanta to sleep at the house of couchsurfers Alba and David.

Nach 3 Stunden Fahrt kam ich im Tanger Outlet in Commerce an und shoppte erstmal ausgiebig in meinen Lieblingsgeschäften.  :) Das Outlet ist nicht sehr groß, aber hat eine gute Auswahl an Geschäften wie Abercrombie&Fitch, Hollister, Gap, American Eagle, Aeropostale etc. :) Ich machte keinen Großeinkauf, fand aber das ein oder andere schicke Teil :)

After 3 hours drive I arrived at the Tanger Outlet in Commerce and I was shopping extensively in my favorite shops :) The Outlet isn't very big but it has a good choice of shops like Abercrombie&Fitch, Hollister, Gap, American Eagle, Aeropostale etc. :) I didn't make a bulk purchase but I found the one or other nice item :)

Danach fuhr ich Richtung Süden zum sogenannten Antebellum Trail. Entlang dieses Trails zwischen Athens und Macon in Georgia liegen einige sehr schöne Ortschaften, die den Verwüstungen des Bürgerkrieges entkommen sind. An den wunderschönen Straßen stehen teils mehr als 150 Jahre alte Villen und charakteristische alte kleinere Häuser. Die Amerikaner nennen diese Häuser Pfefferkuchenhäuser, da die Balkonbalustraden und die weißgefärbten Fassaden irgendwie an Zuckerwerk eines Pfefferkuchenhäuschens erinnern.

Einen der Orte, Madison, hab ich mir angeschaut. Dieses Städtchen mit weniger als 4000 Einwohnern wird als Perle des Antebellum Trails bezeichnet und scheint in vielen Straßen einem Freiluftmuseum zu gleichen.

Das am meisten photographierteste Landgut in Madison ist das beinah märchenhafte Hunter House von 1883. Das Haus ist im Queen-Anne-Stil gebaut, mit Erkern und Dachkapellen, einem rundum laufenden, überdeckten Balkon mit Balustraden und einem schönen Garten mit Rosen und Azaleen.

Zusammen mit dem mehr als 170 Jahre alten Dovecoat House gehört es zu den schönsten Bauwerken der Stadt. 

Aber was hat Madison mit "Vom Winde verweht" zu tun? :) Die berühmte Schriftstellerin Margret Mitchell is von Atlanta und der Roman "Vom Winde verweht" spielt in Clayton County. Sie war vermutlich durch die Häuser in Madison County inspiriert .

Afterwards I drove to the South to the socalled Antebellum Trail. At that Trail between Athens and Macon in Georgia there are a lot of very nice towns which escaped from the path of destruction of the civil war. Along the beautiful streets there are partly more than 150 years old mansions and characteristic old small houses. The Americans call these houses gingerbread houses because the balustrades of the balconies and the white painted fronts remember to the sugar decoration of a gingerbread house.

I visited one of these towns, Madison. This town with less than 4000 inhabitants is called the pearl of the Antebellum Trail and many streets seem to be an open-air museum.

The most photographed mansion in Madison is the almost magical Hunter House from 1883. This house is build in Queen Anne style, with oriels and roof hoods, a circumferential roofed balcony with balustrades and a beautiful town with roses and azaleas.

Together with the more than 170 old Dovecoat House it belongs to the most beautiful buildings of the town.

But what has Madison to do with "Gone with the Wind"? :) The famous author Margret Mitchell was from Atlanta and "Gone With the Wind" was based in Clayton County. She may have been inspired by homes in Madison County.

Am zeitigen Abend fuhr ich nach Atlanta zu David und Alba. Die beiden empfingen mich total herzlich und hatten - was für ein Zufall - grad das Abendessen fertig, selbstgemachte Pizza :)

Nach dem Essen boten sie mir an, mit mir eine Stadtrundfahrt bei Nacht zu machen. Was für ne coole Idee, dachte ich und hab natürlich angenommen :D

David und Alba, ihr seid echt die Besten!!! Die Rundfahrt hat total Spaß gemacht! Und da ich nicht viel Zeit in Atlanta hatte, war das die beste Idee, um in möglichst kurzer Zeit soviel wie möglich zu sehen! Und Atlanta bei Nacht hat wirklich seine Reiz :) Danke nochmal an euch beide!!!

In the early evening I drove to Atlanta to David and Alba. Both welcomed me very heartly and they had - accidentially - just finished preparing the dinner, selfmade pizza :)

After the meal they offered me a city trip at night. What a great idea I thought and said yes :D

David and Alba, you are the best!!! The city trip was a lot of fun! And because I didn't have much time in Atlanta, it was the best idea to see a lot in a short time! And Atlanta at night has its own charme :) Thanks again to you!!!
