Colorado

Gestern morgen gings mit dem Flugzeug von Washington DC nach Denver in Colorado. Direkt am Flughafen haben wir unseren Mietwagen für die kommende Woche abgeholt. Wir haben nun einen großen Chevy, der seeeehhhhhrrr viel Platz bietet und super bequem ist.

Yesterday morning we flew from Washington DC to Denver Colorado. At the airport we picked up our rental car for the whole week. Now we have a very big Chevy which has a lot of space and is very comfortable :)

Nach einer ausgiebigen Shoppingtour in der Cherry Creek Mall in Denver sind wir gestern abend noch bis nach Grand Junction gefahren.

Die Fahrt auf der Interstate 70 dorthin ist einfach traumhaft! Man durchquert die Colorado Mountains auf durchschnittlich 2000 bis 3000 Metern Höhe, passiert den Glenwood Canyon, den White River National Forest, verschiedene berühmte Colorado Skiorte wie Idaho Springs, Glenwood Springs, und andere Springs und kommt an den ursprünglichen Goldminen der alten Goldgräberzeiten von Colorado vorbei. Die Landschaft auf dieser Strecke ist geprägt durch dichte Nadelwälder, typischen kleinen Bergdörfern mit Holzhäusern, schroffen Felsen, hohen Bergen, Wasserfällen und Regenwetter, um das auch wir auf der Fahrt nicht rumkamen ... eine grüne Oase beim eigentlich sehr trockenen und sonnigen Denver um die Ecke. :) 

After a long shopping tour in the Cherry Creek Mall in Denver we drove to Grand Junction yesterday evening .

The driver on Interstate 70 was beautiful! We passed the Colorado Mountains on averaged 2000 to 3000 meters height, passed the Glenwood Canyon, the White River National Forest, different famous Colorado ski resorts like Idaho Springs, Glenwood Springs and other Springs and passed original gold mines from the old time of gold diggers of Colorado. The landscape is affected through coniferous woodland, typical small mountain villages with wooden huts, cliffy rocks, high mountains, waterfalls and rainy weather (what we also had)... a green oasis by a very dry and sunny Denver round the corner. :)

Heute morgen sind wir durch das Colorado National Monument gefahren. Viele verschiedene rote Felsformationen in einer traumhaften Landschaft erwarteten uns. Wir durchquerten das Gebiet auf dem Rim Rock Drive mit vielen Serpentinen und machten viele Fotostopps mit tollen Ausblicken in die Canyons.

This morning we drove through the Colorado National Monument. Many different red rock formations in a fantastic landscape expected us. We crossed that area on the Rim Rock Drive with many serpentines and we stopped many times to make some pictures at places with great views in the canyons!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Utah

Danach gings weiter und wir passierten die Grenze zu Utah. Waren wir bisher von den tollen Landschaften Colorados verwöhnt, so erwartete uns hier der Luxus des echten Wilden Westens! :D Die Landschaft wurde immer trockener und roter! Die Felsen wurden schroffer, die Berge waren noch schicker anzusehen. Wir fahren einen Grossteil der Strecke direkt am Colorado River entlang und staunen nur über die traumhafte Landschaft! Wir halten an vielen Ecken an, um Photos zu machen und kurz zu verweilen, um den Ausblick zu geniessen. Aber irgendwann ist auch die schönste Fahrt zu Ende und wir kommen an der Red Cliffs Lodge an, unserer Unterkunft für die folgende Nacht.

Afterwards we drove further and passed the border to Utah. We have been already very impressed from the great landscapes in Colorado, but he expected us the luxury of the Wild West! :D The landscape is more dry and red! The rocks are more cliffy, the mountains more beautiful. We drove most of the time directly along the Colorado River and admired the dreamlike landscape! We stopped at many places for photos and a short stay just to enjoy the view. But some time even the most beautiful drive ends and we arrived at the Red Cliffs Lodge, our Western Ranch for the next night.

 

 

 

 

Die Lodge ist eine echte Westernranch bei Moab. Hier wurden schon viele berühmte Filme wie Rio Grande oder Geronimo gedreht mit vielen Berühmtheiten aus der Westernwelt wie John Wayne!

This Lodge is a real Western Ranch nearby Moab. Many famous movies have been shooted here already like Rio Grande or Geronimo with a lot of famous actors from the Western like John Wayne!

Die Umgebung hier ist grandios! Fast blutrote Felsen mit tollen Formationen, der Colorado River direkt vor der Terasse, warm und sonnig ... was brauchts mehr? :-) 

The neighborhood of the ranch is great! Bloody red rocks with great formations, the Colorado River directly in front of the terrace, warm, sunny ... What do I need more? :)

 

 

Von der Ranch aus gab's heute nachmittag noch eine Reittour in die Umgebung. Wie in den Westernfilmen wurden wir ausgestattet mit Hüten, Satteltaschen, Wasser und Pferden. Die Tour führte durch offenes Gelände, durch Creeks und Canyons, sowie unter Bäumen lang und dauerte 3 Stunden! Der Trampelpfad war ziemlich eng, so dass wir meist hintereinander ritten. Mein Pferd war ab und zu etwas störrisch und wollte nicht immer da lang, wo ich lang wollte, vorallem wenn sich der Pfad in 2 Pfade aufteilte und 10 Meter weiter wieder zusammen lief. Man musste sich also entscheiden, welchen der beiden das Pferd gehen sollte. Und wenn ich dann das Pferd nach links gelenkt hab, hat es kurz gezögert, ist dann aber nach rechts gegangen.... doofes Pferd :D  Manchmal wollte es von dem Gestrüpp, das da wächst, essen. Ich hab dann immer an den Zügeln gezogen, weil wir das nicht zulassen sollten. Aber mein Pferd (es hiess übrigens Slim Jim!) hat kräftig gegen gehalten und munter weiter gefressen.... was soll man da noch sagen? :D

Es war aber auf jedenfall total schön und ein Highlight in diesem Urlaub! Yeehaa! :D

At the ranch we started a horse back ride this afternoon into the neighborhood of the ranch. Like in the western movies we have been equipped with hats, saddlebags, water and horses. The ride leads us through open ground, through creeks, canyons, under trees... and took around 3 hours! The trail was very narrow so we rided one after another. My horse was a bit balky and didn't want to ride where I wanted, especially if the trail was parted in 2 parts for just 10 meters :) We had to decide which direction we wanted to ride and had to steer the horse. When I tried to steer my horse to the left it stopped a short time and was walking to the right.....stupid horse :D Sometimes it wanted to eat from the brushwood which growed there. I just tried to pull the rein because we shouldn't allow that. But my horse (its name by the way is Slim Jim!) strongly held up and ate animated further ... what shall I say? :D

But the ride was great and definitely a highlight on this vacation! Yeehaa! :D

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Abends haben wir uns dann noch ein leckeres Steak vom Grill gegönnt und den Sonnenuntergang zwischen den Bergen beobachtet. Schade, dass der Tag schon rum ist :-) 

In the evening we ate a delicious steak and watched the sunset between the mountains. Pitty that this day is over :)
